All our directors and senior landscape architects are Chartered Members of the Landscape Institute, ensuring the highest level of expertise and professionalism in everything we do.

    James Penney

    DIRECTOR

    James is a chartered Landscape Architect and Product Designer with over 20 years experience in leading and delivering urban regeneration, green infrastructure and historic restoration projects.

    He most values simple, meaningful design and the big difference that can be found in the smallest of details. James is passionate about the role of landscape architecture in combating climate change, its relationship with ecology and the invaluable contribution it can make to our health and wellbeing.

    Most likely to be found… Masterplanning or in the garden barbequing.

    Marc Tomes

    DIRECTOR

    Marc is a chartered Landscape Architect, community planner, and urban designer with over 25 years of international experience across both the public and private sectors.

    With a passion for joining the dots, Marc brings ambition, clarity, and a collaborative spirit, driving processes and outcomes that truly make a difference. His work is rooted in the belief that by unlocking potential, we can shape a better future for people, places, and nature alike.

    Most likely to be found… facilitating a community workshop, sketching big ideas, or taking a refreshing dip in the sea.

    Matthew Scott

    SENIOR LANDSCAPE CONSULTANT

    Matthew is a Senior Landscape Architect with over 25 years of diverse experience in both the public and private sectors.

    Matthew is committed to creating thoughtful and enduring designs that not only stand the test of time, but also enhance people's wellbeing and connection to their environment.

    Most likely to be found… At the drawing board sketching or climbing mountains for charity.

    Frankie Stevens

    LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

    Frankie is an accomplished and passionate graduate landscape architect with a particular interest in biophilic design, permaculture, and soft landscape design.

    Since joining Allen Scott, she has worked on a range of landscape schemes at all different stages, from concepts and masterplanning through to detailed design.

    Most likely to be found… In the houseplant section at the garden centre or training for her next running goal.

    Georgie Ballantyne

    STUDIO MANAGER

    Georgie oversees the smooth running of the studio, supporting our team and clients by keeping projects, processing and day-to-day operations aligned.

    Her background spans surveying, valuations and client support roles, giving her a well-rounded understanding of professional practice, organisation and communication. She brings a calm, considered approach to the studio - ensuring consistency, clarity and a welcoming environment.

    Most likely to be found… Exploring local walks, discovering independent shops, or enjoying a quiet evening with a good book

    SENIOR LANDSCAPE CONSULTANT

    With a strong background in master planning and strategy, David has successfully led diverse projects across multiple sectors, showcasing his expertise and commitment to enhancing the environment for the greater good.

    He is passionate about the crucial role our landscapes can play in nurturing socially integrated and sustainable communities.

    Most likely to be found… Out on his road bike exploring new places.

Careers

We are looking for a Landscape Architect. 1-2 years of experience (UK based) but candidates with more experience are also welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Allen Scott’s design ethos, representing our values and design approach across all project teams and meetings.

  • Engage with live projects across the office providing support where required.

  • Work with a close-knit team, encouraging effective collaboration, skills sharing and personal development.

  • Promote Allen Scott and the wider landscape profession by sharing our approach and ensuring quality design standards are delivered through our projects.

Skills:

  • Enthusiastic, organised, self-motivated and happy to collaborate with clients, stakeholders and/ or other consultants.

  • Interested in engagement-led design and to learn about the UK planning system.

  • Conversant with Adobe CC and AutoCad.

  • Good communication and written skills.

  • A team player who takes pride in their project work.

  • Hand drawing skills and willingness to sketch
