140 greenfield homes, Hassocks

Allen Scott have been involved in all stages of this development from initial masterplan layouts, public consultation and a successful public inquiry to design development. The key landscape principle was to work within and to retain the landscape features of the site, such as mature trees and hedgerows and the stream corridor. With a sensitive context the layout of the primary and secondary roads allows the housing to face out to the landscape features so that active frontages encourages a social element of care in these valuable ecological features and enables them to be publicly maintained. The SuDs drainage strategy for the scheme included several swales linking to attenuation ponds within the open space areas to ensure these are attractive landscape features in their own right but also enhance and widen nature conservation value.
