As part of the major TFL infrastructure project Phase One extension of the East London Line, Allen Scott were appointed to develop the lineside landscape along the line route from Dalston Junction in the north to New Cross and New Cross Gate in the south. The design intent of the lineside planting was driven by mitigation requirements established as part of a detailed Environmental Statement to create an ecologically rich, indigenous, mosaic of plant communities to ensure maximum habitat creation for local wildlife in particular the endangered Black Redstart. A large section of the northern extension on existing raised viaduct was designed as a low fertility, species rich
extensive green roof seeded with sedum and indigenous perennial species selected from the Natural History Museum postcode plant database. In tandem with the ecological importance of the line of route, screen planting and noise barriers were located at sensitive locations in the vicinity of residential properties.
