Winner of the London Cycling Campaign Award. As part of the Limehouse Cut Regeneration Programme the Environment Agency commissioned Allen Scott to design and deliver improved access, visual quality, safety, ecology and identity to the canal and the surrounding areas of London. A series of unique gateway, signage and build-out features were designed to raise awareness of the canal and open it out for use as a leisure facility. We conceived the central floating towpath to take walkers and cyclists underneath the busy A12 dual carriageway which had previously been inaccessible and severed the canal. With feature lighting along its length and using concrete flotation to accommodate water level changes the boardwalk had to meet many regulatory requirements.
