Brighton City Airport

This working airport is a regionally important transport hub and a local economic driver. Allen Scott worked as part of a team on the two phases of the design development. The first phase designing a new mixed-use development around the existing 1920’s Grade II Listed terminal building. The second phase to take a landscape-led masterplan approach to  accommodate 40,000sqm of new employment-based development within the wider operational airfield. Based within a sensitive landscape setting and adjacent to the Adur Estuary, a SSSI and flood plain, the proposals had to demonstrate a high degree of quality and sensitivity. Landscape and environmental constraints were  identified and used to guide options for appropriate types and scale of development to form the basis of a design code. Photomontages and 3D models were used as part of the consultative process with Adur District Council and allowed a quantum of development to be agreed.
