Conningbrook Lakes Country Park

Allen Scott were appointed by Ashford Borough Council to prepare a masterplan for Conningbrook Lakes Country Park. Focussing on the recreation area, the masterplan was prepared to articulate aspirations for enhancements to this strategic country park and to provide an overarching spatial framework to guide future projects and phased implementation.

The masterplan responded to the park’s growing role as a destination for recreation, water sports and outdoor activity, while balancing its landscape, habitat and conservation value. Proposals included a new green gateway and hub space, improved paths and circular walks, accessible parking, a destination play area, enhanced lakeside access, interpretation, seating, public art, ecological improvements and provision for a potential commercial opportunity. The study also considered the longer-term potential to extend the country park offer across the Great Stour and set out a framework for phased delivery as funding becomes available.
